2025 3S Governing Board Elections
General Call for Nominations: the 2025 Society of Sinophone Studies Elections
Dear 3S Members:
The Society is running elections for two new governing board members— the Vice Chair and the Program Director.
Position Descriptions
The Vice Chair shall preside at meetings in the absence of the Chair and shall have the powers and duties of the Chair in his/her absence. The co-chairs (Chair & Vice Chair) are responsible for running the organization in general, including stepping in to assist other members of the Board with their duties.
The Program Director is responsible for organizing and coordinating events sponsored by the Society, including identifying and liaising with the host institutions and convenors of the Society’s biennial conference and any outreach or fundraising activities. The Program Director shall also perform such other duties incident to the office as may be prescribed by the Board.
The deadline for self-nominations and candidate statements is May 18, 2025.
After receiving self-nominations and statements, we will run elections from late May through June 2025. All nominations must be made as self-nominations by the individual involved, rather than by another person. We particularly encourage self-nominations by those whose institutional affiliation is outside the United States. All scholars are eligible to serve on the governing board, including (but not limited to) those who hold academic positions, independent scholars, graduate students etc. Terms for all positions are for three years: July 2025 to June 2028. Candidates must be 3S members to self-nominate and stand for election.
Governing Board Member Self-Nominations
Duties for members of the 3S governing board include participating in regular board meetings via Zoom; weighing in on decisions of the board as a whole; assisting, in collaboration with the Program Director and Conference Host, in plans for the biennial 3S Conference; and potentially taking on one or more special projects on behalf of the Committee, such as related to fundraising, networking with other organizations or projects, or publicity.
If you are interested in running for the governing board, please email a 150-word board candidate statement (describing your background, interests, and your reasons for running or possible plans if elected) to 3S Chair, E.K. Tan, by May 18. His email address is EngKiong.Tan@stonybrook.edu.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions. We look forward to self-nominations by June 7 and to the elections soon after that. We are excited for the new leadership and work ahead for the Society of Sinophone Studies!
Best,
3S Governing Board
